A Sporty Miscellany Monday

~ Tonight is the BCS Championship game and this Louisiana girl is so pumped! LSU will be taking on Alabama (again!) in New Orleans, and while I think it's ridiculous that Alabama even made it to the championship game, I am looking forward to watching LSU beat them again. ;) For argument's sake, let's say Alabama does win. So, LSU beat them once, they would have beaten LSU once...this win would not make them the best team in college football. There was no playoff system to put Alabama in this position, and therefore Nick Saban's whole It's-just-like-when-the-Patriots-beat-the-Giants-in-regular-season-but-the-Giants-beat-the-Patriots-in-the-Superbowl analogy is invalid. :D

LET'S GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!!!

What's harder than beating Alabama twice?

Beating LSU once.

(I heard this on facebook and couldn't resist sharing... :) )

~ In other sports news, did anyone watch the Broncos/Steelers game last night?!?! While I'm not a fan of either team, I am a fan of Tim Tebow. And that game last night was seriously ah-mazing!

 via

I am SO happy that the Broncos won and I sincerely hope they do well in the rest of the playoffs. I'd love to see a Saints/Broncos Superbowl, and even though I do love Tebow, this Who Dat would be cheering for BLACK AND GOLD! :)

~ Speaking of the Saints...can I just say WHO DAT?!?!? I am SO happy that we beat the Lions and are heading into the next round of the playoffs! Brees, Sproles, Graham and the rest of the guys did an awesome job on Saturday and I am so proud. It truly was the perfect end to my birthday! :) On our immediate to-do list is 1) We beat the 49ers 2) Brees is named MVP, which he so rightly deserves!!!!

The footage is old, but the chant is the same. LOVE.

~ Saturday was my birthday, and just like last year my Discovery flight was cancelled. :( Legally we could have flown, but it was a very cloudy day and our visibility would not have been great for my first time up. We're heading back to the flight school on Thursday so (God and weather willing!!) this prego can finally fly a plane! :D

 Planes :)

My doctor's note. I love how he states "as long as there is another pilot on board", then I can fly the plane! Lol well duh!!! LOVE my doc. :)

Me, my sweet man and Baby Gavin on my 26th.
(That little black fur ball at the bottom is Abigail)

I'd wish I could say that I'm sorry that this turned into a sports post, but I'm kinda not.
I love sports.
:)

Happy Monday, readers!

Louisiana: Days 1 & 2

The drive from our home in Charleston, SC to my Maw-Maw's house in Kaplan, LA is definitely brutal. Keith and I left around 6pm on Tuesday, November 23rd and didn't arrive until 7:30am on the 24th. (It was really 8:30am since we lost an hour with the new time zone.) While the drive is tough, it is definitely worth it.

Once we arrived at my Maw-Maw's house, we visited with her for a short while and then took a nice 3 hour nap. By lunch time we were awake and ready to tackle our day. My little cousin, Colleen, was at my Maw's house on this day, and Keith and I had a blast spending time with the both of them. Colleen is seriously one of the most precious little girls I have ever met.

That
afternoon we headed over to my mom's for dinner. On our way, we picked up my friend Kori, AKA Flaml. It was a very relaxing night and I was so happy to be back in Louisiana. My Mom cooked a roast, rice and gravy, and corn and it was delicious! The night flew by too quickly, and before I knew it it was time to leave.

Me, Baby Joe, and Flaml

On Thanksgiving morning we woke up pretty early and headed over to my Me-Maw's house to spend time with my Mom's side of the family. The Saints were playing the Cowgirls that night, and the dress code for the day was either a Saints jersey, Saints shirt, or a fleur de lis shirt. :) I was the odd ball in my non-Who Dat attire, but all was well. The Saints BEAT the Cowgirls, and it was a glorious day. This was Keith's first time experiencing a Cajun Thanksgiving, and I think he really enjoyed himself. :)

Keith and my littlest sister, Lacey. I told them to smile and this is what they did. :)

My Me-Maw with all of the little grandchildren.

Me with my Godchild, Matthew.

Even the frog was decked out. WHO DAT! :)

Littlest sister, Mom, Me-Maw, Aunt Mandy, Little sister, and me.

After stuffing ourselves silly with turkey, ham, rice dressing, potato salad, green bean casserole, cheesecake, etc. we headed over to see my Dad's side of the family. I moved to SC in January 2009 and haven't seen some of my relatives since 2007. Needless to say, this was WAY overdue.

Top: Little sis Lauren, cousin Nicole, cousin Rhea, littlest sis Lacey
Bottom: Me, cousin/bff Lena, cousin Michelle

Sillyyyyyy.

We had to have a jumping picture!

My 6.5' foot cousin Jacobi and me. We're only 1 year and 2 days apart. :)

After the family festivities, Keith and I headed to meet Flaml. We dropped Keith off at the movies with my cousin, Cade, and the two of them enjoyed the new Harry Potter movie. Flaml and I enjoyed girl talk at a nearby coffee shop. Thanksgiving day was one of the best days that I've had in a really long time. It was filled with family, friends, good food, and tons of love, and was without a doubt perfect.

La Vie En Rose

* This weekend was absolutely wonderful. The weather was seriously gorgeous and Keith and I were very productive, in a relaxing kind of way. We spent Friday night relaxing, and my sweet husband even agreed to watch Sabrina with me. :o)

via

Saturday was delightful. We slept in, then went run a quick errand. Keith did some yard work, while I cleaned the front porch. This part sounds like a drag, but since the weather was amazing it was really fun! Then we headed to church, watched Serendipity (loved this!), did homework, and caught up on college football.

Pictures from the day. :o)

Sunday we did more homework, and then headed back to church to volunteer with the student ministry. Overall, I really enjoyed myself. We are always so busy, but this weekend we seemed to really embrace each other and the beautiful weather. Yay for Fall!

* Here's a picture of my nephew, Baby Joe.

Is it just me, or does he resemble the cutest version of E.T.?? I love this kid mucho and miss him very much!

*Dear New Orleans Saints,
Please stop the madness! I know that a win is a win, but seriously??? If y'all don't stop this I may lose some, if not all, of my hair this season. :o) WHO DAT!

via

I hope you all enjoy your day today!

TGI Monday?

* This weekend was absolutely nuts. Saturday was a planned cleaning day, and Keith and I were very productive. We cleaned every inch of our bathroom, our bedroom, and did around 10 loads of laundry. (Let's just say it's been awhile...) Overall, Saturday was a good day. Then Sunday came. Keith woke up feeling really sick and was in bed for most of the day. After a very awful vomiting session he began running a high fever. I have never felt so helpless! I took care of him the best that I could, and his fever broke during the night. Thank the Lord! I never thought I'd say this, but I am so glad that it's Monday.

* Is anyone excited about Glee this week? I know I am! I can't wait to see an old school Britney themed episode! Yay!

* Next week I have a paper due for my Criminology 220 class on a movie that features criminal behavior. I am really excited about this assignment and will be writing my paper on the movie Fracture. This is one of my favorites and I cannot wait to tackle this assignment. :o)

* Oh Garret Hartley. Even though you missed a 29 yard field goal in overtime, I still think you are great. Yes, the Saints lost, but if you wouldn't have made the field goal with 4 seconds left in regular playing time, we wouldn't have made it to OT anyway. I'm still a fan. And I'm still rooting for my New Orleans Saints. WHO DAT!

via

I hope you guys have a lovely Monday!

Change of Plans

My night went a little different than I had planned. I thought I'd workout, then watch Chuck and Monday Night Football, while spending time with the hubs and getting a little homework done. You know, a nice, low key evening. Well, this is what actually happened.

Right after work my friend Allison came over and we did Pilates. It was very relaxing and a great workout. (We're still having a bit of trouble with the "seal" workout, but we'll get it soon! Hehe)

Every Monday Keith has been playing tennis with a few of his friends, so last night was no different. Instead of watching Chuck without him, I decided to wait until tonight to watch it. (Mucho wife points earned) So what's a girl to do? Watch Dancing With the Stars! I've never been a huge fan, but I think that's about to change. I really loved the show last night! Kurt Warren did a surprisingly awesome job and I was thoroughly entertained! Guess that's just one more show I'll be hooked to this Fall!

via

And then the Saints game happened. Holy freaking guacamole. That game nearly killed me! The top incidents that will contribute to my gray hair were:
  • 3 turnovers from the 49ers (thank you much!)
  • Reggie getting hurt
  • Getting a 29 yard penalty for pass interference (against the Saints), only to intercept the ball. WOW!
  • A 49er 2 point conversion being no good -- oh wait, it was good...grrrr..
  • Hartley's very low, but very good winning field goal
AH! It was nuts and I was freaking out. At midnight. I've been a Saints fan for the majority of my life, so I'm used to this, but seriously guys???

We won 25 - 22. Whew!

Needless to say, it wasn't a "relaxing" night, but it was a great night indeed. WHO DAT! :o)

It's a Good Life

* Tonight is the season 4 premiere of Chuck and Monday Night Football - Saints vs. the 49ers! It's going to be a GREAT night! :o)

1, 2

Not to mention that Glee is back on Tuesday!!!! Wooo hooo!

* Did anyone see or hear about Derek Jeter's "hit-by-pitch" fiasco?

How do you guys feel about it? I've spoken to a few people about it, and I'm getting mixed reactions. Some say "Ehhh that's baseball", while others think it's wrong. Here's my take on it - UNACCEPTABLE! Derek Jeter, you are the captain of the New York (freaking) Yankees and you should be ashamed of yourself! From the mouth of Mr. Captain himself:

"It's really a big deal being made out of nothing," Jeter said in the New York Yankee clubhouse before Friday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles. "I had nothing to do with the call. The umpire called it from the get-go. I didn't do it. I didn't tell myself to go to first base. I didn't make the call. He didn't ask me did it hit you and I said, 'Yeah, it hit me please let me go to first base.' It's comical to me that this is really getting this much attention." via

Are you freaking kidding me?!?!? We know that you didn't tell yourself to go to first base, but your acting convinced the ump to make that call! You are a player that has always been classy and respected...a player who is a role model to so many children and adults! Everyone makes mistakes, and it's not the end of the world, but you have certainly disappointed this Yankee fan!! Grrrr..... **Sorry to freak out, but this really ticked me off.**

* Friday night Keith and I finally watched Letters to Juliet, and we both loved it! Two thumbs waaay up! :o) Keith said that it was one of the best chick flick that he's ever seen. Yay! I'll definitely be purchasing this DVD soon.

* I'd like to extend my deepest congratulations to LawSchoolDreamer who received her first acceptance letter to law school, and also a FULL RIDE scholarship!!!! I am so very happy for her and so inspired!

Hope you all have a fantastic Monday!

Misc. Monday Thoughts

1. I have come to the conclusion that a Dallas Cowgirls loss feels almost as good as a Saints victory. Last night I watched the Dallas Cowgirls lose to the Washington Redskins in a last second almost touchdown/holding penalty. It felt GREAT. Hehehe

via

2. I finally saw Eat Pray Love and have to say that I am thoroughly disappointed. It seemed like the movie would never end, and quite honestly if it wasn't for the amazing Julia Roberts and Italy, I would have hated it completely. My favorite part of the movie was the previews beforehand, especially "Life As We Know It". No bueno.

3.
I have an update on the Hawaii trip that was up for grabs! *Drum roll pleeeeease*

I didn't win.

BUT, I did win $500.00 big ones!!!!! I had no idea that my company was going to reward us for every new customer we brought in, and I brought in 20 during the month of August! Yay! I am so thankful for this unexpected blessing! As for Hawaii, it just wasn't my time...but I do believe $500.00 is enough for 2 plane tickets to NYC. ;o)

via

4. Have you ever watched something on TV that completely changed your life? This happened to me once before, and it happened again on Friday. Keith and I stumbled across a 20/20 program called "7 Going on 70". We have never watched 20/20 before, but we were intrigued. The show was about three little girls that have Progeria. Progeria is a rare, rapid aging disorder that only 68 children worldwide have. The average lifespan for these children is 13 years.

Can you imagine? 13 years.

One would expect the kids with this disease to be very emotional and upset, but to our surprise they were fearless. These little girls (named Lindsay, Kaylee, and Haylee) were the bravest people I have ever seen.

They were positive, strong, and encouraging. These kids are everything I hope to be. The whole time I watched the episode, all I could think of was how beautiful they are. At one point, Kaylee was asked for advice for the children who share her disease. Do you know what she said?

"Be fabulous. Don't let one thing ruin your life."

When asked "What do you hope is going to happen?" her response was "I hope if I grow hair, that I grow curly hair."

My heart nearly stopped when I heard this little girl speak those words. With everything that is going on in her life, she is hoping for curly hair. When faced with a huge obstacle, she stays fabulous. Did I mention that she's only 6.5 years old???

I think we can all learn from these beautiful little girls. Life is too short to worry and be bothered over the little things. These little girls have changed my life, and are my heroes. God has let their light come into my world and I honestly don't think I'll ever be the same.

If you are interested in this story, you can watch here. To find out more information on Progeria and how you can help, please visit www.ProgeriaResearch.org.

Monday Funday?

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

1. Thanks to the awesome Kate Voegele Pandora station I have been introduced to Sara Haze. I'd say she sounds like Colbie Caillat, but with a little more raspy-ness. Definitely my new fave!

2. On Saturday I had a hair appointment for a highlight and cut. I was there for 3 hours and am very pleased with the lady who did my hair. She was so great! I went to L'Paradise salon in Summerville and I highly recommend Rebecca. I walked out of the salon with much blonder hair and a smile on my face. Pictures coming soon...

3. Today is the first day of classes for Keith and I. (So proud of you baby!) I love the flexibility of online classes, but it's days like today that I would really love to attend. First day of school excitement is priceless. Only 4 semesters left until I graduaaaate...then it's off to law school. YAY! :o)

4. Can I just say WHO DAT? Saints 38 Texans 20

5. That's pretty much all I've got for today. I went to bed way too late last night and I'm feeling it this morning. :o/ I hope you all have a great Monday!

Instead of giving myself reasons why I can't,
I give myself reasons why I can.

WHO DAT?!?!?

We did it!!!!! The New Orleans Saints have defeated the Indianapolis Colts to win THE SUPERBOWL. I repeat, the SAINTS ARE THE SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS!!!!!

I am so consumed by the happiness I am feeling from this win!!! The Saints have electrified the city of New Orleans and the people of Louisiana! And while I wish I could have been back home to celebrate with my family and friends I am still literally jumping with joy here with KC. Even though he was sick, he was still a good sport!

BLESS YOU BOYS!!!!!

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

oh how i want to be in that number...

WHEN THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN!!!!!

I know that I'm a few days late, but on Sunday the New Orleans Saints defeated the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship and are going to the Superbowl!!!

The freaking SUPERBOWL!!!!!!

I cannot express the joy I had when Hartley kicked that beautiful field goal and WE WON THE GAME! For those of you who don't know much about the Saints, let me fill you in. Growing up, being a Saints fan meant being constantly disappointed and somewhat embarrassed. Year after year I would watch my parents put on their black and gold clothing (sometimes my Dad would even paint his bald head black and gold) and cheer on their team. And year after year, my parents and the majority of folks in Louisiana would refer to this team as the Aints. It was my 8th grade year when I began to notice how bad the Saints were and how poor of a coach the team had. His name was Jim Haslett, and he was terrible. The Saints also had a quarterback named Aaron Brooks. This guy would laugh after throwing interceptions (which he did ALL the time). So, I vowed that I would not be a devoted fan until these two clowns were gone. My wish came true in 2006 when Mr. Sean Payton came to town. Not only did he clean up the team, but he transformed the city.

Since then, I have been a crazy obsessed fan. Living only 40 minutes from downtown New Orleans encouraged my love for this team even more. In 2007 the Saints made their first NFC Championship appearance. I was working in NOLA as an Executive Assistant at the time and the city literally buzzed with excitement. Whether I was in line at the grocery store or in an elevator with complete strangers, everyone was talking about the Saints! Every car had a "Bless You Boys" sign in their window. We were proud of our team. Well, we ended up losing that game to the Chicago Bears. BUT, our time is now! It only took 42 years, but we've finally made it to the Superbowl. Win or lose, I am so very proud of my team. They've worked hard and deserve every bit of happiness. There is a video of fans in New Orleans right after we won the game. At the end of the video a jazz band and tons of fans marched down Bourbon St. singing the Who Dat chant. If you have a second, please watch it. It made my heart smile, and I hope it makes yours do the same. :o)
