No. 24 - Attend a Yankee game in NYC

In September 2011, a few months before Gavin was born, Keith and I booked a babymoon to NYC. We purchased plane tickets, booked our bed and breakfast, and had everything planned. Due to a change in heart, we cancelled our trip. I was so bummed out, but I knew it was right decision. Fast forward a year and a half later and we're back to planning a trip to New York City. Except this time, it's really happening! 

On Thursday, April 4th, Keith, Gavin, and I are boarding a non-stop flight to The Big Apple! :) We'll land at 8:00am and aren't coming back to South Carolina until Sunday afternoon. We've got our plane tickets and hotel booked, Keith's vacation time has been approved, and we even purchased tickets to....a Yankees/Red Sox GAME! Going to this game knocks #24 off my 30 Before 30 list. While there, I'll also be conquering #23 - Walk the Brooklyn Bridge and #16 - Have Breakfast at Tiffany's! :) 

We are all so excited about this trip, as it is much needed and well deserved. Keith has been working so hard at his job and is such an excellent provider, and he deserves a break from it all and to go on vacation. As for me, I think my 24/7 gig as a mom earns me a vacation. ;) Additionally, it's going to be a celebration trip. Between our 3 year anniversary on March 7th, me finishing up my undergraduate studies, and this being our last vacation with Gavin as an only child, we have every reason to celebrate!

And while Gavin is coming along, we're not worried that this will feel more like work. I hate to brag or sound annoying, but he's such a great kid and has never given us trouble on past trips. We feel blessed to experience NYC with our son and are looking forward to making memories. This will be G's first time on a plane, but we're hoping for the best. 

The countdown is on, and we've officially got 21 days until our trip, and I can't wait!

Good morning, sweet readers. How are y'all doing today? I'm feeling great! Keith and I just finished the last of our assignments and are officially on Fall Break for one week. YAY! Anyway, Happy Monday y'all! I'm full of miscellaneous, so that's what I'll be writing about today. 

* I know it's only Monday, but I am beyond pumped for Friday because....Keith and I are finally going on a date! :) It's been months since our last one and this quality time is much over due. Plus, I'm totally pumped to get dolled up and explore Charleston with my man. :D

* So, my Yanks are in the playoffs, but it is so hard to be happy when Jeter is out with a broken bone in his ankle. He is without a doubt my favorite ballplayer and it just doesn't feel right seeing someone else play shortstop. The Wall Street Journal posted an article yesterday called Without Jeter, These Playoffs Feel Like a Funeral and boy are they right. I'm praying this injury doesn't end his career. I'm praying that he is back next year and playing like himself again.

It may sound silly, but if this is it for him...if he doesn't come back, I will truly be heartbroken. Besides the fact that he's The Captain and is just a damn good player, I am hoping he's okay, selfishly, so that I can see him play in person. I've yet to do that, but it hasn't been without trying. (Remember my honeymoon?) My logic is this -- it's like living in the era of DiMaggio and never making time to get to NYC and watch the greatness in action. Especially now that Gav is here, I just really want to share the experience with him. *sigh* Sorry to ramble, but this is important to me.

* I don't know what the weather has been like everywhere else, but here in South Carolina it has been bliss. Anywhere from the 60's to 70's and sunny. We've also had hotter days and rainy days, but man have those sunny fall days been wonderful. Gav and I have been going on walks and I am really just thankful for these days.

* After one month of avoiding fast food, I decided to splurge yesterday on a Whopper combo from Burger King to celebrate Fall Break. Let's just say I deeply regret this decision. I was so nauseated and felt terrible. Almost like I had food poisoning. Blah. I guess we really are what we eat! I don't want to say too much yet (don't wanna jinx myself) but over the past 5 weeks I've lost a considerable amount of weight (we're talking double digits!) and I am 1 pound from reaching my pre-baby weight. Thank God! (I'm going to write about my results once I reach my goal.) Eating that awful BK meal yesterday was definitely poor judgment, but I'd like to note this experience for the next time I am tempted to eat fried, processed, food...DON'T DO IT LADY!!! (Also, is anyone on My Fitness Pal? If you are, send me your username! I'd love to have more accountability and offer up some encouragement.)

Well, that's all the rambling I have for now. I'll be spending today with Gav and relaxing without feeling guilty. I've been wanting to have an Audrey Hepburn marathon, and I think that's exactly what I'll do. On the lineup? Roman Holiday, Sabrina, and Breakfast at Tiffany's. :)

I previously mentioned that Keith and I were in the process of booking a trip, but I didn't want to spill the beans until everything was officially official. Now that the plane tickets have been purchased and our lodging is reserved, I can finally tell the world!

My last trip to NYC was in 2008 and my husband has never been, so this trip is definitely overdue! We'll be leaving early on Friday, September 23rd and coming home in the afternoon on Monday, September 26th. 

We'll be staying at a charming Bed and Breakfast in Brooklyn. The owners have graciously given us permission to check-in early (10am!) at no additional charge!

Being the crazy list person that I am, I've already mapped out our days, purchased tickets to different events, and made reservations at a particularly sweet restaurant. :) (Okay, I need to really confess -- I also made a PowerPoint presentation equipped with animation when my husband told me that we were booking this trip. I know, I know. Nerrrrrd.) Here's how our trip is looking.

GO TO A YANKEE (vs. red sox) GAME!!! #24 on the list!

I am so very excited for this trip and I cannot wait to experience New York City with my sweet husband! :D I wanted to add so much more to our list, but we'll only have 3.5 days, and I really don't want to overdue it. I'll be 16 weeks pregnant for this trip and judging by my lack of sickness thus far, I am not anticipating any illness for this trip! (fingers crossed!)

So, fellow New Yorkers/those who adore this city -- any tips/advice for this trip? Anything that we must see that isn't listed? Any places to stay away from? Any and all advice is welcome! :)

Breathtaking Views

Derek Jeter, the captain of the Yankees and one of my absolute favorite players, has listed his gorgeous Manhattan penthouse for sale. This penthouse measures at a whopping 5,425 square feet and is listed at $20 million dollars. Oh. my. word. Apparently he was having a little trouble selling this place (ya think??) so he enlisted the help of a Home Stager to make his place dazzle. 

While I personally think spending this much on a home is borderline psychotic, I have to admit that the views are stunning. And when you've played for the New York Yankees, this price probably doesn't even phase you. (Not sure if that's a good or bad thing.)

77 Days

Yesterday I received one of the most lovely emails that reminded me how close CHRISTMAS really is...(Sorry Chloe and all my Yankee hating friends.)

Can you imagine having a Christmas party at Yankee Stadium?!?!? That would just be ahmaziiiing to me. :o) I have not been to the new stadium yet, but I did tour the House that Ruth Built in the final season. (woop woop!)

Okay, okay so back to the point --

There are only 77 days left until Christmas!

Since this is my first Christmas as Mrs. Christmas, I am thinking I should deck out the house with Christmas decorations and really put my volunteering skills into action!

For decorations, I'd love a beautiful tree, lights galore all over our house, and one of these bad boys in the front yard.

Two years ago when Keith and I were dating, I was visiting him in SC and went with him to buy his Christmas tree. We decorated his house a bit and had a blast. I can't wait to do it again this year as a married couple! :o)


As for volunteering, I'd really love to go visit a nursing home and spend time with the folks there. I've been wanting to do this for a little while now, but it seems like this idea has been put on the back burner. Whenever I see elderly people my heart strings are tugged and I feel like just running up to them and hugging them. Everyone has a story, and I can guarantee that some of their stories are simply amazing. I really hope that I can make time this year to visit them.

* Did anyone see or hear about Derek Jeter's "hit-by-pitch" fiasco?

How do you guys feel about it? I've spoken to a few people about it, and I'm getting mixed reactions. Some say "Ehhh that's baseball", while others think it's wrong. Here's my take on it - UNACCEPTABLE! Derek Jeter, you are the captain of the New York (freaking) Yankees and you should be ashamed of yourself! From the mouth of Mr. Captain himself:

"It's really a big deal being made out of nothing," Jeter said in the New York Yankee clubhouse before Friday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles. "I had nothing to do with the call. The umpire called it from the get-go. I didn't do it. I didn't tell myself to go to first base. I didn't make the call. He didn't ask me did it hit you and I said, 'Yeah, it hit me please let me go to first base.' It's comical to me that this is really getting this much attention." via

Are you freaking kidding me?!?!? We know that you didn't tell yourself to go to first base, but your acting convinced the ump to make that call! You are a player that has always been classy and respected...a player who is a role model to so many children and adults! Everyone makes mistakes, and it's not the end of the world, but you have certainly disappointed this Yankee fan!! Grrrr..... **Sorry to freak out, but this really ticked me off.**

* Friday night Keith and I finally watched Letters to Juliet, and we both loved it! Two thumbs waaay up! :o) Keith said that it was one of the best chick flick that he's ever seen. Yay! I'll definitely be purchasing this DVD soon.

* I'd like to extend my deepest congratulations to LawSchoolDreamer who received her first acceptance letter to law school, and also a FULL RIDE scholarship!!!! I am so very happy for her and so inspired!
