Relaxing on this Miscellany Monday

Source: flickr.com via Lauren on Pinterest

Good morning, sweet readers. How are y'all doing today? I'm feeling great! Keith and I just finished the last of our assignments and are officially on Fall Break for one week. YAY! Anyway, Happy Monday y'all! I'm full of miscellaneous, so that's what I'll be writing about today.

* I know it's only Monday, but I am beyond pumped for Friday because....Keith and I are finally going on a date! :) It's been months since our last one and this quality time is much over due. Plus, I'm totally pumped to get dolled up and explore Charleston with my man. :D

Our first Charleston date, January 2009

* So, my Yanks are in the playoffs, but it is so hard to be happy when Jeter is out with a broken bone in his ankle. He is without a doubt my favorite ballplayer and it just doesn't feel right seeing someone else play shortstop. The Wall Street Journal posted an article yesterday called Without Jeter, These Playoffs Feel Like a Funeral and boy are they right. I'm praying this injury doesn't end his career. I'm praying that he is back next year and playing like himself again.

It may sound silly, but if this is it for him...if he doesn't come back, I will truly be heartbroken. Besides the fact that he's The Captain and is just a damn good player, I am hoping he's okay, selfishly, so that I can see him play in person. I've yet to do that, but it hasn't been without trying. (Remember my honeymoon?) My logic is this -- it's like living in the era of DiMaggio and never making time to get to NYC and watch the greatness in action. Especially now that Gav is here, I just really want to share the experience with him. *sigh* Sorry to ramble, but this is important to me.

* I don't know what the weather has been like everywhere else, but here in South Carolina it has been bliss. Anywhere from the 60's to 70's and sunny. We've also had hotter days and rainy days, but man have those sunny fall days been wonderful. Gav and I have been going on walks and I am really just thankful for these days.

* After one month of avoiding fast food, I decided to splurge yesterday on a Whopper combo from Burger King to celebrate Fall Break. Let's just say I deeply regret this decision. I was so nauseated and felt terrible. Almost like I had food poisoning. Blah. I guess we really are what we eat! I don't want to say too much yet (don't wanna jinx myself) but over the past 5 weeks I've lost a considerable amount of weight (we're talking double digits!) and I am 1 pound from reaching my pre-baby weight. Thank God! (I'm going to write about my results once I reach my goal.) Eating that awful BK meal yesterday was definitely poor judgment, but I'd like to note this experience for the next time I am tempted to eat fried, processed, food...DON'T DO IT LADY!!! (Also, is anyone on My Fitness Pal? If you are, send me your username! I'd love to have more accountability and offer up some encouragement.)

Well, that's all the rambling I have for now. I'll be spending today with Gav and relaxing without feeling guilty. I've been wanting to have an Audrey Hepburn marathon, and I think that's exactly what I'll do. On the lineup? Roman Holiday, Sabrina, and Breakfast at Tiffany's. :)

Happy Monday, readers!

Happy Birthday, Baby

Today is my amazing husband's 27th birthday. :D

Four years ago, this man walked into my life by mere chance (well, God knew what He was doing, but you know what I mean). I was visiting Charleston, SC to see someone else and just so happened to be introduced to Keith at church.

When I first met him, I thought that he was kind and very handsome. He has beautiful blue eyes. :) Little did I know that two years later, I would become his wife. And two years after that? I would give birth to our first child. Life with Keith is an amazing adventure that is always filled with love and laughter. And for that I am forever grateful.

Keith Joseph, I hope you have an amazing day. You are an incredible father and husband and Gavin and I are beyond blessed to have you lead our family.

We love you!!!

Father's Day

Today is Father's Day and I can't help but feel overwhelmed with happiness. On February 29th, little Gavin entered this world and Keith and I have never been the same. Today, we are celebrating our sweet boy's life. He is the apple of our eye and words cannot express how much joy he brings to our lives. Today, we are celebrating Keith's role as a father. I know that he's only been doing this for a few months, but he's truly amazing at it. :) Gav adores his Daddy and always gets so excited whenever Keith gets home for work. I am excited to watch the relationship between Keith and Gavin grow, and will always thank my God for these two indescribable blessings in my life.

Happy 1st Father's Day, baby! We love you! :)

Miscellany Monday

* I miss blogging so much. Not only do I miss the interaction with you guys and the opportunity to get my thoughts on "paper", but I love documenting my life. I began blogging when I moved to South Carolina in 2009 and was able to write about wedding planning, married life, being pregnant, and everything in between. Now more than ever, I want to remember all of the sweet moments we're having with Gavin. We are finally getting a routine going in the Christmas household, I think that I may actually be able to start writing on a consistent basis (fingers crossed).

* The last time I wrote I told you guys that I'd be heading back to work on June 4th. Well...scratch that. As much as I wanted to get back out there and contribute to my family's finances, it just isn't feasible. Multiple factors played into this decision, with the main reason being Keith's work schedule. He is one busy man! Most days he's home between 5pm-7pm, while other days he has to spend the night in upstate South Carolina or in North Carolina. Due to the fact that I maintain our home and haven't expected much of Keith in this department, I just don't feel like I'd be able to be a good employee, mom and wife if I had to spread myself so thin. I am thankful that going back to work is an option and not a necessity at this point, but I do hope to get back to work sometime next year. Until then, I'll be enjoying precious moments with my handsome little boy.

Moments like these... *sigh*

* Keith and I started Weight Watchers a week ago and I am ecstatic to report that things went great! I've yet to step on the scale to see if I've lost any weight and quite frankly I'm going to put that off for as long as possible. I could honestly care less what that number is, because I'm feeling awesome! Slowly but surely I'm starting to plan my day to be able to get a good workout in and I'm excited to transform this post-baby body. (Plus, I'm hoping to knock off #12 - Meet my weight loss goal, off of my 30 Before 30 list!)

* I know this is a bit late, but Keith and I absolutely loved the season finale of Once Upon a Time! We have been faithful watchers and were beyond pleased with the first season. I don't want to spill the beans for anyone who has not seen it, but goodness! We can't wait to see what happens next.

* My heart. :D

Have a great day y'all!

It's a Crazy, Wonderful Life

Lots has happened since the last time I've posted on my blog. So much so, that I'm afraid I'll need to sum everything up in order to avoid any further blogging procrastination. I hate that I haven't been able to write much, but the most amazing little boy has been keeping me busy. :) And I simply adore spending my time this way.

Tons of this going on. I love, love, love him!

Alright, here we go with these updates...

* For starters, we've moved! We're now back in South Carolina and living in Summerville (which is about 30 minutes from downtown Charleston). The move happened this past weekend and was very exhausting. Since the house that we own is being rented, we've settled into a lovely apartment. It's a very nice, peaceful community and I have a feeling we're going to love it here.

In the past, I've been pretty vocal about my distaste for Charleston, but I'm feeling different this time around. I realize that I never really gave it a chance. Now that we're back I am vowing to become a tourist and truly experience the Lowcountry. I want to explore this charming city and immerse myself in the culture, history and all that Charleston has to offer. Let the adventures begin! I am so excited!

* Come June 4th, I will be heading back to work part-time at the disaster preparedness company that I previously worked at in Charleston. They have graciously offered me my old job back and are allowing me to go back on a part-time basis until I'm ready to go full-time. I'll be working 9-5 Monday thru Wednesday and am really excited to be going back to work. However, I am also extremely sad when I think about leaving my sweet boy. :( I currently have separation anxiety when I leave him to take a shower, and I have no idea how I'm going to manage leaving him for work. BUT, I think it's going to be great for our family and for me to work part-time.

* Last week was Keith's first week solo at his new job and he absolutely crushed it! He met the quota that his company set for his first month in the first week! My husband is severely blessed with his ability to sale and I am SO proud of him! :)

Gavin and I actually joined Keith on his first week of travel and during our stay in Wilmington, NC I found the location of One Tree Hill's river court! The bad news is that since OTH is over, the court has been demolished. :( The only thing left is a patch of dirt, but it was still pretty cool to be at this spot. Wilmington is gorgeous and Keith, Gav, and I will be heading back for a mini vacation.

* I previously mentioned that I may have finished the Spring semester with two A's...and I did!!! (Well, an A and an A-, but hey, that's two A's!) I have three classes left until I graduate with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice and I am beyond thrilled. It's been a long road (6 years!) and I am finally finishing my undergraduate studies. Pending an Academic Petition to substitute one of my required classes and an Independent Study request for my CRJU Senior Research class, I will potentially be taking all three classes this fall and then THAT'S IT! :D Come May 2013, I'll make my way to Virginia Beach and walk across that glorious stage! Thank you God!

* A few days after Gavin was born, I found out that I was awarded a 50% scholarship to an amazing LSAT Prep Course -- Blueprint! Keith and I could not pass up the deal and we purchased the course for me to begin studying for this beast of a test. I will be taking the October administration of the test here in Charleston and will begin studying May 1st. This gives me plenty of time, but with a newborn and my hectic schedule I'm definitely going to need the extra time! I am very anxious about this test and can't wait until this step of the law school admission process is over.

Whew I think that's the just of everything. I hope you guys are doing awesome! Hopefully I'll be back sooner than later. :)

So Little Time...

So much to do!

First off, thank you guys so much for your kind words about Keith's new job! We are absolutely thrilled and very excited for this new chapter in our life! :) This was the job that he interviewed for back in the beginning of February and the one we were praying he would get. This job not only gives Keith employment, but it is also the best job he'll have ever had financially! Thank you God! The benefits are fantastic and we will also be moving back to Charleston, SC. Keith was born and raised in Charleston and he is over the moon about our move back. As for me, I must confess that I'm excited, too. I lived in Charleston for 2.5 years, and while I wasn't too fond of it then I am hopeful that things will work out and that I'll truly get to know this enchanting city. :)

 Date Night in Charleston, 2010

I am claiming that this time around is going to be different, and not just for the obvious reasons. First starters, Gavin is here! Our family has expanded and this sweet child adds so much joy (and sleep deprivation...hehe) to our life. :) I can only imagine all of the things we're going to be able experience because of Gav. Also, the home that we own in Charleston is currently occupied by our very sweet tenants and will be this way until August of 2013. So, we are currently looking for a rental home. This is very exciting to me because we'll get to experience a different part of town.

We're actually heading to South Carolina this weekend to look at houses and apartments and we're hoping to find something we like and get everything situated...because we're moving in 30 days! That's right -- we have 30 days to pack up our home in Atlanta and make our way back to Charleston. Did I mention that my husband is going to be in training for this new job for two of the four weeks? As in, not home! Lol looks like Gavin and I will have to pack as much as we can! The other day I didn't get to brush my teeth until the early afternoon after 5pm (and not because I didn't want to, but because I truly did not have time!)...wonder how I'm going to juggle mommyhood and packing!

You live and you learn, right? :)

Stopping by to say...

HE GOT THE JOB!!!!!!

HE GOT THE JOB!!!!!!

HE GOT THE JOOOOOB!!!!!!

This is absolutely an answered prayer and Keith and I are so thankful for this news! Thank you God! Gavin and I are very proud of you baby! He'll be starting at the end of March, and...

We're moving back to Charleston!
:D

That is all. :)

Two Years

Two years ago, I married the man of my dreams. A man that I met by chance in March 2008 and who forever changed my life. On this day, our son was scheduled to make his big debut, but lucky for us he arrived a week early. Today, we're spending the day together with Gavin and treasuring these moments with our newborn. Keith Joseph, I didn't think it was possible, but I love you more and more each day.

Gavin's Birth Story, Part II

"At 8:00am, the midwife from my doctor's practice arrived and we were thrilled to discover that not only was the crazy midwife not there, but it was the one that I absolutely love! :) At this point I was wishing for a good 6 cm, but was told that this wasn't likely since it had only been 6ish hours. So, you can imagine everyone's surprise when she told me that I was 8 cm!!! My contractions were so inconsistent and definitely not close enough to allow me to dilate this much, but the body is an amazing thing and I was blessed by this dilation. During this check my water actually broke, and that is when things really got intense!" - From Part I.

For the next hour and sixteen minutes, every few minutes, I felt the worst pain of my life. Once my water broke there was no longer that shield protecting Gavin's head from my pelvis and the pressure and pain I felt is truly indescribable. It was very similar to the Endometriosis pain I felt in the past, but on a whole other level. Through each contractions I was moving all over the place trying to find the best position to be in. I had a squatting bar at the end of my bed and I would go from that position, to laying on my side, laying on my back, to even getting on all fours and hugging the back of my hospital bed. This last position really helped to move things along. I kept telling Keith that I couldn't do it anymore. I just couldn't take the pain. But, I had made it to 8 cm and it was too late to turn back now. There was only a little left to accomplish and I was determined to do this!

Luckily, the time it took to get to those last two centimeters flew by and before we knew it my midwife was being paged to my room for delivery. I began to push a few minutes before she was able to get to my room and Gavin was there, ready to enter this world. The nurses were telling me to stop and wait for the doctors and I couldn't believe it! I was literally experiencing the "ring of fire" and they were asking me to wait! Lol I remember not listening and yelling "HURRY UP!!!" They did, and with a few final pushes Gavin was in this world.

My eyes were closed for the majority of the time at the end, but I did see his big debut and they handed him to me right after. I immediately began sobbing. I was so overwhelmed that my sweet baby boy was finally here. And that I had just given birth the way that I wanted. I only held Gavin for a few moments before he was brought to the side to be cleaned up and checked out. I thought that I'd mind, but in reality I was a bit traumatized. The pain was gone but not forgotten. I was exhausted and sweaty and while an episiotomy wasn't done, there were stitches needed. Then came the placenta and a whole bunch of blood. To be honest, I was a bit scared. I was worried that something was wrong, but apparently this was all normal.

Once my midwife was finished making sure that I was okay, Gavin was brought over to me and it was a moment that I never wanted to end.

I was finally holding the precious child that had been kicking me for the past 4+ months. I had never seen anything so beautiful, and in that moment I finally understood God's love for me. It was completely amazing.

Gavin was born at 9:16am and Keith and I stayed in the labor and delivery room until around 3pm. My sisters and Keith's Dad and StepMom came visit and we spent the day in awe of our son. Once we were moved to our recovery room my Mom arrived and we visited with her for a bit. While I should have been beyond exhausted (I only slept one hour the night before) I was on cloud nine and running on adrenaline. Due to hospital policy for new moms we were required to stay for two days. Keith and I didn't mind at all and we enjoyed resting and learning as much as possible about how to care for our son.

Overall, my labor and delivery experience could not have gone better. I was able to have the natural birth that I wanted and had a pretty quick labor, at around 9 and a half hours, once we arrived at the hospital. Even though the natural birth wasn't exactly what I had in mind, I absolutely do not regret going this route. I was able to experience the true process of giving birth and feel incredibly grateful for both the good and not-so-good parts. Besides the soreness, I felt truly amazing afterwards. Lol and actually, I was eating lunch (a Big Mac) an hour after Gav arrived. If anyone is thinking about going natural, I highly recommend it. It's not easy, but it sure is worth it. At this point I feel like I can tackle anything I set my mind to. Taking the LSAT? Law School? Climbing Mount Everest? Psht. No biggie. (I'm obviously joking a tad, but I do feel so empowered) I also had a doula present during my labor and she was such a big help. She offered encouragement and advice on pain management when it was needed, and Keith and I don't know what we would have done without her.

Another factor that contributed to our experience was the hospital that we delivered at. Keith and I were so impressed with all of the nurses and staff at Northside Hospital - Main Campus in Atlanta, Georgia. The kindness and hospitality that we received was fantastic. Each and every person we came into contact with was especially helpful and made our experience so special. To our nurses -- Janice, both Jennifers, Maggie, Connie, Darlene, Rebecca and Fabira -- THANK YOU! You guys are superb.

And while this isn't an award show, I'd also like to express how grateful I am for this experience and for the love and support I felt from my husband. Keith, I love you so very much and appreciate your strength during my times of weakness. You had just as much to do with the success of this labor and delivery as I did. I love you. And last but certainly not least, I could not have done any of this without the strength of my Lord and Savior. Without a doubt, His love, mercy and grace carried me through.

Our Bags are Packed, We're Ready to Go!

We are definitely entering the homestretch of this pregnancy! With 9 days left until Gavin's due date, the excitement around my house is getting pretty high. Keith and I are very anxious and any little pain or Braxton Hicks contraction is gaining tons of attention. So far, nothing has been serious. Both of our hospital bags are packed, I am officially finished with the spring semester (YAY!), and there isn't much for us to do but wait.

My baby sister arrived in Atlanta Saturday night and we've been talking a lot about my big belly and my hopes for a natural birth. She is on board with my plan and I am thrilled. After hearing so much negativity on the topic, it's nice to talk to someone who actually believes in me. :) On Sunday, we experimented with a belly cast and I have to say...I love it. Keith and I now a personal piece of art that will be a reminder of Gavin's home for his first 9 months.

While Gav's nursery isn't what I envisioned, it will do for now. Until we know where we'll be living in a few months, there isn't much of a point to painting, decorating, or setting up his crib. (By the way, we heard back from the company that Keith interviewed with and they will be calling on Tuesday to discuss the details!!!) For now, Gav has a bassinet in our room and a bassinet/play yard in his room.

Every time I walk into his closet and see those tiny diapers, my heart truly melts. I am beyond ready to meet my son. I always thought that I knew what love was. I know that I love and simply adore my wonderful husband. I know that I love my God more than words can describe. But, the love that a parent has for their child is a different kind of love (so I'm told). It resembles the love that God has for us, His children. And it is a love that I am slowly becoming introduced to. Once that little body is placed in my arms and I look into my son's eyes...everything will be complete. Oh goodness I am already tearing up just thinking about it.

I cannot wait.

It's going to be the most magical moment of my life.

One Month

 via

The lovely Audrey Hepburn. :)

As of today, there are only 29 days left until our sweet Gavin Josiah is due to make his appearance! While I know he may be a bit early or late, one month is all that's left until I'm considered 40 weeks pregnant. It's definitely an exciting time here in the Christmas household and we are ready to meet this sweet little boy. While excitement is our main emotion, we are also a bit overwhelmed.

You see, that curve ball that we were thrown at the end of December changed everything. With one month left I planned on having Gav's nursery mostly finished and really getting our house baby-ready. But, here we are with his crib in pieces and nothing set up in his nursery. Clothes, toys, diapers and wipes, furniture and decorations are everywhere!

The reason?

We may be moving again.

Everything is up in the air at this point with Keith and his potential new job, and if he does get the job then it is likely we'll be moving in April or May. Where to? No idea, but we're preparing for this door to open. Keith had an amazing interview and if for some reason he does not get this job, then we trust it's because God has something better in store. So instead of getting the nursery perfect only to pack everything, we're going to use his bassinet in our room and play yard/bassinet in his nursery, and just wait. Once we know the plan, we'll either set up his nursery here in Atlanta or at our new home...wherever that will be.

I have to say, it's probably a good thing that this has happened, because not one bit of me wants to nest! The whole pregnant and nesting thing did not happen to me! All I'm trying to do is make sure that I stay on top of my studies, and that my semester comes to an end on February 25th and baby comes after! Although, I'm sure my professors would understand if a few assignments were late due to the birth of my son... :)

Is Today Really Thursday???

I cannot believe that it's been over a week since my last post. Things have been absolutely crazy and I don't even know where to begin. Due to the fact that things are still very hectic and I must play catch-up with my schoolwork, I'll make this post short and sweet.

* Keith and I left for Charleston, SC last Thursday evening. This was a planned trip, and we were heading to the Lowcountry for our co-ed baby shower/to spend time with friends and family.

* Our baby shower was on Saturday and it was absolutely lovely. We are so blessed to have such amazing people in our lives.

* After the shower, Keith received a call from a potiential future employer about a job interview! So, on Tuesday of this week, we headed from Charleston to Charlotte, NC for my hubby to interview with a new company. The interview went as well as it possibly could have...so now we wait. :)

* Two words: Swollen. Feet. After our drive to Charlotte this awesome pregnancy symptom kicked in, and boy is it uncomfortable. I shouldn't complain too much though...I've had a pretty easy pregnancy.

* Here's a sneak peak from our Maternity shoot. I adore these pictures and can't wait to see more.

That is all for today. I am overwhelmed by the amount of things on my to-do list for this week...and apparently today is Thursday, which leaves not much time for anything! I'll be back with a baby shower re-cap, an update on my LSAC fee waiver status, and hopefully fantastic news about the interview. Wish me luck!

We Will Overcome

 via

Have you ever had a completely-out-of-left-field event happen to you that leaves you speechless and gasping for air? A few weeks ago, Keith and I had a major one fly in and absolutely blindside us.

I'd rather not discuss the specifics, but it has something to do with his job and therefore drastically impacts our health benefits. We have faith that everything will work out, but for now it's a bit stressful. There are many things that are uncertain, but the answers are only a few days/weeks away. I've always been mediocre at praising Him through the storm, but this time it's been different. This time, through each bout of tears and overwhelming feelings of defeat, it has stayed in the front of my mind that we are still blessed, God is still good, and He is still in control.

So while things are a little complicated, I am vowing to keep my eyes on Him and focus on what's important -- my faith, my husband, and my son. This bump in the road is nothing when I think about everything that's going on in the world. When it comes down to it, it's all about perspective. The clip below is one that I've been playing over and over the past few days. The song is called Overcome and it is sung by Jeremy Camp.

John 16:33 states "I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.

If you can relate to this post, then I want to encourage you that in the end, everything will be okay. God is in control. Just hang on. It'll get better.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him

Baby Bump - Weeks 27 & 28 and Gavin's 4D!

At the beginning of the month, Keith and I scheduled a 3D/4D ultrasound of our sweet baby boy. The appointment was in the morning, and unfortunately Gavin was asleep with his hands AND feet in his face! Lol even though the pictures didn't come out as great as we'd hoped, we had a great time. Plus, we registered our session online and family members from South Carolina and Louisiana were able to watch it live! It was awesome.

Face shot -- the line across his eye is the umbilical cord.

Hands, toes and face!

Gav's face! His nose was pressing against my belly!

His face, with both feet crossed!

I am so anxious to meet this little man! Only 78 days until my due date...boy is time flying by!

---------------------

 27weeks, 5 days

28 weeks, 3 days

For weeks 27 and 28, things were pretty smooth. My biggest struggles were with sporadic heartburn (oatmeal causes it but pizza doesn't?) and nosebleeds. My energy level was high and I was able to accomplish a lot during these last few weeks before Christmas and finals. During week 28 I had my glucose test done and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Due to my blood type not being compatible with my husband's, I had to have a RhoGAM shot. It wasn't too bad, but for two days after the area around the injection site (lower back!) was severely sore...I could barely walk! But, the soreness is gone and things are going well.

I am now at the stage where doctor's appointments will be every two weeks. It is hard to believe that the third trimester has arrived and this sweet life inside of me is a mere 12 weeks away from entering this world. It is very surreal knowing that Keith and I are going to be responsible for this child. We'll no longer be a couple, but a trio. Parents. A family of three. Thank you, Lord!

Life in Georgia

 via

So far, life in Georgia is very different than life in South Carolina was. For starters, I get to see that sweet husband of mine everyday! It may sound silly, but I was a tiny bit nervous about how we would act around each other after being apart Monday - Friday for 5 months. Would be bicker? Would we revert back to our honeymoon days? Would we annoy each other?!? Well, I am happy to report that we easily jumped back into our routine and it has been marital bliss. :)

Another thing that is very different is my job schedule. Back in Charleston I worked 9-5 every weekday at a place I was mostly happy at. Working full-time is all I've ever known, and I've been doing that since I was 18 years old. Now, I am working part-time from home editing weddings for my grandmother's videography business. Yesterday we set up the office and starting today I will begin editing around 4 hours a day! I'll be editing weddings, but here's a baby dedication I did for my bro/sis in law to give you guys and idea of what I'll be doing.

I was a bit hesitant to work part-time, however school is starting at the end of the month and I'm taking a whopping 16 hours. Working a full-time j-o-b would have definitely not blended well! (Side note - I hate how I get SO excited for classes to start, and then once they're here it's like BAM. Reality. What was I thinking?!?!)

While we haven't been able to venture out and explore our new town yet, we are very excited to get to know Atlanta and meet new people. Actually, someone who has inspired me greatly may be moving here, but more on that later!

Have a great Tuesday lovelies!

My Final Charleston Misc. Monday

* This week is my final one here in Charleston. My husband and I are packing up our life this weekend and heading to our new home in Atlanta, GA. I'm not sure if I'm ready for this week...but I guess I'll have to be. My last day at my job of two and half years is on Friday. We say goodbye to our first home together on Sunday. BUT, we say hello to being together everyday again. No more weekend only quality time. And that is worth picking up and moving to a new city. :D

* We had three potential renters look at our home on Saturday. We've only heard back from one, but this one sounds promising and it's looking like we will have a tenant in our home for August!!! Thank you God!

* I recently purchased Colbie Caillat's new album, All of You and I must say that it is fantastic. :) She has a voice like an angel and I've been listening to her new tunes constantly. Her song What Means the Most really spoke to where Keith and I are at in our lives.

No more days far away
where I miss you
No more nights trying to fall asleep
without you
From now on I’m always gonna be there
I won’t miss another day that we won’t share

*sigh* Ms. Caillat, you rock. :)

* Last but certainly not least...as many of you know, little baby James of Jamesie Beats the Tumor went to be with the Lord on Saturday. I have been following this family's journey and words cannot express how much this news saddens me. I am truly rocked to my core. I do not personally know this family, but what I love about "blogland" is that when something like this happens, we all band together in prayer and offer support and love. This week and beyond, please pray for the Sikes family.

Rest in Peace sweet James

Insulted? Pray.

I have written about this many times before, but I seriously think that Pastor Rick Warren is stalking me. Okay, maybe not really, but God is definitely using his daily email devotionals to open my eyes and awaken my heart.

I received a devotional not too long ago from Pastor Warren's church. It was written by a teaching pastor by the name of Tom Holladay and focused on the scripture "Pray for those who insult you." (Luke 6:28) The opening of the devotional went something like this:
"When it comes to being insulted, there is something Jesus said in Matthew 5 that can make us scratch our heads. "If someone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other cheek also" (Matthew 5:39 NCV). Huh?"

This absolutely got my attention, because it's always something that I have had a hard time understanding. My husband and I talk about this a lot. He is a 100% compassion-for-all-I-can-see-your-side kind of guy. (And I absolutely love this about him.) I am a face-the-consequences-where's-the-justice?-oh-no-you-didn't kind of girl. (Talk about balancing each other out, eh?) I do have a heart full of compassion, but when when it comes to being insulted, witnessing an injustice, or just plain knowing what's right and what's wrong, I have a hard time "turning the other cheek."

Reading this devotional helped me to truly understand what it means to turn the other check. It also helped me to realize that there is difference between injustice and insulted. I sincerely hope that when future situations arise, I will be able to pray for those who have insulted/offended/hurt me, and also that I will choose my battles wisely.

I hope you enjoy these wise words. :)

When You Are Insulted, Choose to Pray
When it comes to being insulted, there is something Jesus said in Matthew 5 that can make us scratch our heads. "If someone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other cheek also" (Matthew 5:39 NCV). Huh?
In order to understand this verse, we need to understand the culture of that day. In biblical times, a slap was not an act of violence. It was a backhanded slap indicating an insult. When you slapped someone on the cheek, you were insulting that person. Many times the person would slap back with another insult.

People insult you to gain control. If they can get you to insult them back, you've given them the higher ground and it puts them in control. What Jesus was saying in Matthew 5 is to just let it go. Don't play their game. Give the situation to God.

It takes a lot of strength not to insult someone in return. So how do you do it?
  • Remember what God says about you. No matter what negative thing that person says, remember that God says he loves you. God made you, and he has a plan and purpose for your life. God's opinion is more important than any other person's opinion.
  • Instead of retaliating, God wants us to break the cycle in a different way. "Don't retaliate when people say unkind things about you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God wants you to do, and he will bless you for it" (1 Peter 3:9 NLT).
How do you return an insult with a blessing? Pray. "Pray for those who insult you" (Luke 6:28 GWT).

How do you pray for somebody who has hurt you? King David, a man after God's own heart, prayed for people who insulted and rejected him. You can find many of those prayers in the book of Psalms. What I love about his prayers is that he begins many of them by telling God his honest feelings about the people who hurt him.

That's how our prayers should start. Don't pretend to be pious; God knows what is on your mind anyway. Tell God how you honestly feel. Admit you are struggling to pray for the other person, but then ask God to bless him or her. Honest and humble prayers have the power to make a difference in this world.

Cheese Half Ink a Baby

A lot has happened since my last post. For starters, things with my Dad have definitely gotten better. He has moved from the hospital to a rehabilitation/assisted living facility and is sounding much better. As long as he stays away from the alcohol he could definitely win this battle.

But this post is not about my Dad...

I mentioned last week how my stomach and my Mother's cooking did not mix. I was miserable for a few days after that, but eventually got better. Well, it turns out it wasn't solely my Mom's cooking...

Ladies and Gents -- Cheese. 1/2. Ink. A baby. (Full House anyone?) And by that I mean that

I AM HAVING A BABY!!!!

Turns out that those tummy issues were pregnancy related! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Keith and I are beyond excited about this news and couldn't be happier and thankful for this blessing! Here's how we found out, but first a little back story.

At the beginning of the year I started to feel very convicted about being on the birth control pill. Due to my problems with Endometriosis and Interstitial Cystitis I've been on the pill for years to help suppress the pain during my cycles. As of lately, I was no longer experiencing any pain and felt like there was no need to continue taking the pill. Keith and I have always said that we were putting the growth of our family in God's hands. But, here's the thing -- how can we really  be putting this in God's hands if we are taking active steps to prevent contraception? (I truly hope this does not offend anyone, but this is my opinion.)

So after much thought, we kicked the pill at the beginning of April. Around the middle of last week I started getting anxious -- my period was a few days late and I started getting nervous/excited. Could I really be...?

So, on Friday morning I decided to take a test. If I wasn't pregnant, I wanted to know now and stop getting my hopes up. I took the test first thing after I woke up and was still half asleep. When I saw those two lines...I felt my heart flutter. No. Stinking. Way. I AM PREGNANT???? :)))))

I immediately ran down the hall and woke up my little sister. (My husband works in ATL during the week) I had her come look at the test and confirm this news!!! We were both so excited, and agreed that maybe I should take another test just to be sure. I ended up taking two more throughout the day and YES they were positive! :)

Since I was heading to Atlanta on Friday afternoon to see my sweet husband anyway, I decided to keep quiet about my wonderful news! I don't know how I managed, but I did not say a peep to him about our miracle!!! Instead, I went to the store and purchased a tiny baseball glove and ball, and put it in a bag with the pregnancy tests.

When I got to Atlanta, I gave him the gift and he was ecstatic! WE'RE HAVING A BABY! Even though I'm only a handful of weeks pregnant we didn't want to wait to tell our family and friends. The outpouring support and love that we have received is seriously overwhelming and we are so blessed to have such amazing people in our lives! We cannot wait to share our journey with everyone!

Between our move to Atlanta and the new addition to our family, life is about to get very interesting!

KC and I at the Braves game this weekend! We are so excited to become parents!

(Anyone remember the Full House episode http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1TUlZ4WiNI? :) It's one of the first things I thought about when I found out I was going to be a Mom...definitely a child of the 90's.)

Cat's Out of the Bag

Well, it's official, and I can finally tell all of you lovely bloggers my little secret/what's been keeping me so busy. :)

We are moving to Atlanta!

My amazing hubby has been doing so well at work that they have offered him a territory!!!! I am so unbelievably thankful for this news! Do you guys know what this means?!? It means no more weekdays being apart! It means a new chapter in our lives in a new (bigger) city! AH I am just so stinking excited.

I've never been secretive about my dislike for Charleston, and now that we are finally leaving I am feeling a mix of emotions. Of course I am happy, but I am also going to be leaving behind many things that were starting to feel like home. (But that's a story for later) I know from experience that the grass is definitely not always greener on the other side, but I am anxious to see what lies ahead in our new city!

Anywho...that's what's been going on! We will be moving at the end of July and have beacoup to accomplish before this happens. (Packing, finding renters for our house, finding a new place to live, etc.) but I will try to keep up my blog and document this journey. You really never know what's going to happen next in this crazy thing called life. :)

Belated Weekend Wrap-Up

For Memorial Day Weekend I spent my time in Atlanta with my sweet husband. He has been there every week, Monday through Friday,  for work. It was unbelievably pleasant to be with him for 3+ days in a row. It kills me that I am home now without him, but luckily I will see him Friday after work. Here are a few pictures to recap our time together.

My handsome man getting ready for work. :) I loved watching him in the mornings...he's so cute! :)))

We went to a Braves game and had a fantastic time!

Atlanta...I love you!

I was in Atlanta from Friday until Tuesday (I took an extra 2 days off of work) and there was so much more to it than what these pictures show. The quality time that I was able to spend with my husband was priceless, and I cannot wait until things with his work change so that we can finally be together for more than just the weekends.

Happy Thursday sweet readers! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
