The First Trip of 2011

In about a month, I will be heading to Colorado for my first solo business trip.

This both excites me and makes me a tad bit nervous.

I've only been on one business trip before this one, and I was with a co-worker in a city I know very well, New Orleans. This time I will be alone, and in a place I have never been before. My job will be to attend a conference and represent my company to attendees of the conference and fellow exhibitors. No pressure...right? :)

But that's not the part that makes me nervous.

When I was 18 years old I moved to California to be a nanny. By myself. To live with a family I didn’t know. HOLY. MOLY. What in the world was I thinking??? (AND where were my parents?!??!)  ;) I was definitely naïve and thought of myself as fearless. And while I think I’m still a little fearless, I am definitely more alert and aware of what’s going on in the world. (Thank you, Criminal Justice major)

But again, that's not the part that makes me nervous.

What I am worried about is driving in the snow. This Southern girl has only seen snow a hand full of times, let alone driven in it! I’ll be flying in to Denver, CO and then driving an hour to my destination. I'm not sure if I'll even have to deal with snow while I'm there, but it definitely makes me nervous.

While my first and most important priority is my job, I will have downtime in the evenings. This will be my first time visiting Colorado and I am excited to explore! I’ve been looking at my 30 Before 30 and would love to knock something off while I’m in CO. I have my eye on “Go horseback riding” but I’m not sure how possible this will be in the evenings.

Have you ever been to Colorado? I’ll be staying in the Fort Collins/Loveland area and would love any recommendations you guys have for restaurants, “must sees”, or anything else!

How exciting! I have only been to Pueblo West, CO (which is about 2 hours south of Loveland; I think). It was more plainsy then mountainy, but it was still beautiful. As long as you go slow on Ice, you'll be fine as far as driving in the snow. I can't believe you moved all the way to California when you were 18 for a nanny job. You are very daring!

I have never been to Colorado but its on my to-do list. If there is snow just be cautious and drive slow. Even though you are going for business have fun!!

Don't worry too much about the snow. The mountains have a lot, but there isn't any in the city (right now).

I don't know if you are into microbrews but there are plenty of beer tours in Ft. Collins. The downtown/college campus area is really fun to check out and has a lot of shopping.

WOW!! So amazing that you are venturing off on your own! I would be scared and excited, too! I have been to Colorado once when I was about 10 years old...I loved it.

Take lots of pictures!

Oh, how fun! I bet Colorado will be gorgeous! Just take your camera, pack some pretty winter gear, and have fun with it! You'll do great! :)

How exciting! You'll love it here! Hopefully there won't be any snow when you're visiting, but if there is, most people drive pretty carefully and slowly! If you have any questions about the area, let me know! :)

I want to hear the story about when you were 18 and all big for your britches, adventuring to California!
